The Recycler

Yesterday’s leaves help feed tomorrow’s fruit.

FOR YOUNG EXPLORERS

Walk around the outside. Can you spot old leaves or plant trimmings in the centre? Imagine following one fallen leaf into the soil.

This circle has a busy kitchen underground. Tiny living things break down old plant material, gradually returning nutrients to the earth.

Bananas grow around the composting centre, where their roots can reach food and moisture. The Recycler turns the end of one garden story into the beginning of another.

ROOTS & STORIES

A banana circle brings hungry plants close to a composting basin. Garden trimmings slowly break down in the centre, while mulch helps retain moisture. The design needs suitable drainage and enough water, especially through a Portuguese summer.

Here, care means returning what we can to the place that feeds us. In the garden and beyond it, an ending can become nourishment for a new beginning.

GIFTS OF THE CIRCLE

The circle nourishes both people and soil. Bananas provide potassium, vitamin B6 and fibre. Fallen leaves shelter the ground, while mature compost smells earthy. Notice the different stages of decay. Ask your host before adding anything, so the circle receives materials that belong here.

LOOK CLOSER

The circle is a growing arrangement, rather than a separate kind of banana. Its central feature is the relationship between plants and decomposing organic matter.

O Reciclador

PRESENTES DO CÍRCULO

O círculo alimenta as pessoas e o solo. As bananas fornecem potássio, vitamina B6 e fibra.
