LOQUAT
Nespereira (nêspera)
Eriobotrya japonica

The Rebel
The tree that keeps its own calendar.
FOR YOUNG EXPLORERS
Look beneath a leaf without pulling it off. Is it softer and paler than the top? Can you follow the strong branching veins? While many fruit trees wait for spring to flower, the loquat often starts in autumn or winter. Its little pale flowers set the scene for golden fruit in spring.
The Rebel follows a different calendar. Imagine being ready for your big performance while the rest of the orchestra is still warming up!
ROOTS & STORIES
Native to China and long cultivated in Japan, the loquat found a welcome in Mediterranean gardens. Cool-season flowers lead to an early fruit harvest, although frost can spoil the crop. Its timing adds another chapter to the orchard’s year.
A garden grows richer when its plants keep different rhythms. We too can make room for progress that arrives in its own season.
GIFTS OF THE TREE
Juicy nêsperas taste sweet and tart, sometimes recalling apricot or plum. Their flesh provides fibre and carotenoids, including beta-carotene. Enjoy ripe fruit selected by your host, fresh or in preserves. Remove the large glossy seeds and do not eat them.
LOOK CLOSER
Loquat and kumquat sound alike but belong to different families. Loquat shares its family with apples and roses, while kumquat belongs with citrus.

A Rebelde
Consegues seguir as nervuras?
A Rebelde segue outro calendário.
A polpa fornece fibra e carotenoides, incluindo betacaroteno.
Nêspera e kumquat pertencem a famílias diferentes. A nespereira é parente das macieiras e das roseiras. O kumquat pertence à família dos citrinos.
